4th-5th grade Afternoon Enrichment Pilot Program 2019-2020 (contact Director for instructions)

August 12 update: we are accepting applications for girls and boys, please apply now. We have availability for 6 Mon/Wed/Fri students, 5 Tues/Thurs students, and 7 full-time students. Register now.

We have a highly-engaging STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) program. Our afternoon recipe for success is “Eat. Play. Learn.” Students recharge with a snack outside, then learn in an open-ended, hands-on, creative environment.  Many activities are also outside when the weather is nice. Typical activities include rockets, quadcopters, paint, slime, and robotics.

North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur GA 30033

We are accepting fourth and fifth-grade students on a case-by-case basis for leadership roles; please contact the Director at thescienceoffun@gmail.com to be considered. Fourth and fifth-grade students must be accepted into this competitive program; it is not a guaranteed position. Students who demonstrate exceptional maturity, patience, helpfulness, responsibility, and who enjoy working with younger students are encouraged to pursue this opportunity. This is a pilot program for the 2019-2020 school year. Tuition is the same as other students. Read details here.

We have a $25/month discount for siblings who attend three days per week or more. Sibling discount does not apply to the application fee or first month’s tuition.

Teacher discount

Teacher discounts are not available for the afternoon enrichment program. During break camps, teacher workdays and summer camps we have special benefits for City Schools of Decatur teachers and staff.

Payment details

Tuition costs are already discounted for school breaks and divided into equal monthly payments (see tuition costs above). Monthly automatic payments are through bank ACH draft (bank draft only, NO cash/checks/credit cards) on the 1st of each prior month (ex. September tuition is paid August 1). Payment instructions and bank ACH draft forms will be sent to families upon acceptance and are required to complete registration. Enrollment in the Science of Fun afternoon enrichment program is for the entire school year. All changes and terminations are the first day of the month only, 30 days in advance. Please contact the Director for more details or questions.

“Eat. Play. Learn.” It is especially important after a long day at school that students have a chance to recharge with a snack, run outside, and then learn in an open-ended, hands-on, creative environment. Also, many of the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) activities are outside when the weather is nice. Click here for a detailed schedule of our afternoons. We keep our students very busy; therefore we do not have a homework session.

Social/behavioral/learning needs

We keep an excellent staff: student ratio of approximately 1:10. However, this program is only appropriate for students who can consistently work in small groups and can follow multi-step directions. This program is NOT appropriate for situations in which a student needs a smaller staff: student ratio than we are realistically able to provide. Please note: Historically, siblings have more behavior problems than any other students. Siblings are held to the same high behavior expectations as all other students; only siblings who consistently get along should be enrolled together.

Snacks and clothing

Please pack 2+ nut-free snacks, a water bottle, and weather-appropriate clothes.
