The Science of Fun

September Break Camp 2021

Join us for break camp September 20-24, 2021! Each day is hands-on and full of engaging activities. Activities include STEM topics, matter investigations, chemical reactions, physics explorations, engineering challenges, STEAM (STEM + Art) and Tinker Labs. Many projects are taken home by campers. Our camps appeal to a wide range of campers regardless of experience. No prior knowledge is necessary but advanced learners will also be mentally engaged through sophisticated small group discussions and open-ended activities.

Who we are:

The Science of Fun is a highly engaging, STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) camp and educational enrichment company near downtown Decatur, Georgia. We encourage curiosity, experimentation, risk-taking, and a growth mindset in our elementary-age campers. We believe that children need hearty outdoor play, solid interpersonal coaching, and engaging hands-on STEM activities to have an enjoyable camp experience. We believe in the inherent value of young children and truly enjoy their company. We aim to strike the right balance between structure and fun!

The Science of Fun is owned by Kris Webb, a former City Schools of Decatur teacher and co-founder of the non-profit Sudbury School of Atlanta. Ms. Webb graduated from Agnes Scott College and holds dual Master's Degrees in Science Education and in Educational Leadership. Our camps are led by Instructors and Supervisors who are experienced, highly-educated adults! Read more, HERE

COVID-19 modifications:

Please note that our 2021 - 2022 camps will be predominantly outside and fully masked. Please note: camp is only available for campers who are willing to make the following COVID-19 modifications with support from our staff: wear their mask correctly and consistently, wash their hands regularly, spend the day outside, and maintain social distancing.

Grades:

Kindergarten - 5th grade

Readiness:

Please keep in mind that this hands-on science camp requires campers to get along with their peers, work independently as well as in small groups, and follow multi-step directions. We keep an excellent staff to camper ratio of approximately 1:10. This camp is NOT appropriate for campers who are resistant to following directions or situations in which a camper needs more support than we are realistically able to provide. We want our campers to be safe, happy, and successful- especially during the pandemic. Please consider if your camper is developmentally and emotionally ready for this camp before registering.

What do we recommend for older kids?
