Who we are:
The Science of Fun is a highly engaging, STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) camp and education company in downtown Decatur, Georgia. We encourage curiosity, experimentation, risk-taking, and a growth mindset in our elementary-age campers. Our campers receive hearty outdoor play, solid interpersonal coaching, and engaging hands-on activities such as slime, rockets, and roller coasters. We believe in the inherent value of young children and enjoy their company; we strike a balance between structure and fun. The Science of Fun is owned by Kris Webb, a former teacher and Science Department Chair for City Schools of Decatur. Ms. Webb graduated from Agnes Scott College and holds dual Master's Degrees in Science Education and Educational Leadership.
What we do:
We have four themes with different and distinct activities each summer. The activities are new each year and many families return summer after summer. Activities include STEM topics: matter investigations, chemical reactions, physics explorations, engineering challenges, STEAM (STEM + Art), and Tinker Labs. Many projects are taken home by campers. Our camps are ideal for ages 5-9 whether campers have prior STEM knowledge or not. Advanced learners are also mentally engaged through differentiated small-group discussions and open-ended activities. Descriptions of each summer camp theme are located on the next page.

Campers Ages 5-9: Our camps are all ages 5-9; campers must be 5 by the first day of camp. We also have programs for siblings and older students as seen below.

Hours and extended care:
During extended care, we provide outside time as well as STEAM games, activities, and crafts in the room. Extended care is supervised by certified teachers: no screen time, movies, or chaos!

Summer 2024 Theme Descriptions
Daring Designs: Create and Build Does your child like to make things with their own hands and to push their imagination to its limit? Allow them to explore their creative side with hands-on STEAM projects. Creations take center stage this summer when campers build tiny circus performers, design winged creatures, construct with thousands of Legos, create solar ovens and bake s’mores, and take home their very own Hexbug! | Maker’s Mania: Technology and Art Maker’s Mania is the intersection of technology and art. Design homemade lanterns, construct a movable hinge dragon, direct a shadow puppet theater, build an LED Harry Potter wand, use robots to create art, and much more! |
Radical Reactions: Mix it, Blast it! Does your child enjoy mixing chemicals and making things fly across the room? Who doesn’t? This camp is all about producing chemical chaos and exploring eye-popping physics in a safe, controlled environment. Erupt a vinegar concoction, make and eat homemade ice cream, hydrate Orbeez polymers, dissect (clean!) diapers, fabricate Q-tip crossbows, blast Alka-rockets, and construct domino contraptions. | Summer Science: SOF favorites Classic SOF summer camp favorites all rolled into one week of exciting, hands-on fun.
